Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Gama Master (GM)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Redmond started thinking about how dark it was. And the buggems. And Cedar Valley, in need of help, and the fact that the two best healers in the valley were about to head out, alone, without protection.

"Wait, a second, I, uh, maybe I could go with you guys, you know, in case there are any more of those things out there." he said.

Pierce was thinking the same thing. "You need protection."

Xavier, ever looking out to be a hero, and thinking of his notes back home about cryptic alliances said, "Sure, I'll go too, there are enough here to clean up the rest of those bugs handily."

Solomon just said, "Great. Lets go." Luckily there were still a few more horses available, so the group could ride.

It was a bit slow going but the group made it back to a, somehat surprisingly, peaceful, sleeping Cedar Valley in the wee hours of the night. Sarge normally didn't like to be woken up quite this early, so everyone agreed to meet at his house at 7 am to wake him up, and they all went home for a quick nap. There were no newly injured people at the hospital when Phebe checked in, at least, not from any bombings. The farmers had all been treated and sent home, except for the two children, who were under observation and still remained paralysed, even though the paralytic goop they had been covered with had all been washed away.

The workers there said they had heard and seen the flying machine but it just flew around a few times and then started to fly back north.

At 7, Redmond, Phebe, Xavier, and Pierce all met in front of Sarges house and knocked loudly. Solomon hadn't shown up. A gruff voice said, "Keep yer shirt on, I'm coming." Sarge appeared, he was already dressed for the day's work. "You're back? The second team brought the farmers back and said you were all staying to clean out the rest of those... things. What where they called? Bigbugs?"

He shrugged and said, "So what news can you bring me, and how are you all doing, do you need anything?"

Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Redmond Jacoby
-----------------------------------------------------------
Redmond shrugs, a bit uncomfortably. "We heard that the town was attacked, and decided that the healers were better off here. And we weren't about to let Miss Irpeel and Mr. Sheperd come back alone through the woods, not with those things about."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Pierce
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pierce nodded. "We found the aircraft crashed, but the pilot wasn't there. He's probably going back to base to report on what he saw here. We can probably expect a vistit at some point; we'll have to deal with the buggems quickly. We may only have a week or two to get ready."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Sarge ()
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sarge's eyes grew wide. "So, you say you found the crash site but not the driver? Did you find anything else about the flying-machine? When you say, we have a week or two, what do you mean?"

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Pierce
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pierce shrugged. "I'm only guessing, but the flying machine didn't look like it had a really long range. If that's the case, the pilot can probably walk back to where he came from in a few days. He knows where Cedar Valley is.

Phebe said that she saw the pilot dropping bombs in a vision. Whoever they are are likely out for conquest, or we should act like they are until proven otherwise."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Phebe Irpeel
-----------------------------------------------------------
Phebe nodded.

"When examining the pilot's seat, I had an impression of someone dropping bombs on a village."

"And when examining a necklace we found in the wreckage, I had an impression of someone being choked with it."

"The natural concern is that we are dealing with someone potentially hostile."

Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Sarge ()
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Hrm... we need to stop him. Catch him before he gets out of the valley. Maybe he was wounded, maybe he's slow moving. There's only one way out of the valley as you all know, the path by the ancient's roadway. Maybe if we send someone now on horseback they can beat the driver to the path out, and then maybe capture him to bring back here." Sarge's mind was racing. If hostile forces in the outside world knew about Cedar Valley, they'd be a prime target for conquest. He couldn't let that happen.

Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Xavier Ashe
-----------------------------------------------------------
"We could probably do that," X suggested.  "After all, what's there to fear from one lone man?  I'm sure we can...extract...information from him once we capture him."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Pierce
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pierce nodded in agreement. "We could certainly do that."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Sarge ()
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sarge nods, "If you could, it would be a great service to Cedar Valley. We'd prefer to get him back in once piece, but the most important thing is to stop him before he reports about us to his superiors. Failing that, or possibly in addition to that, if you're willing to go out of the valley, some intel and recon on his organization would help a great deal. He may not be the only scout they sent, or after he doesn't come back they may send others. Best to know what we're up against." Sarge's visage is grim. These have been trying times, and the weight of responsibility is upon him.

"Of course, you're welcome to some fresh supplies, fresh horses, and whatnot. Let me know what you might need."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Redmond Jacoby
-----------------------------------------------------------
Redmond looks uncomfortable at the turn that this is taking, but he understands the problem. "Going through the woods, we'll probably move faster on foot. Supplies would be good, but we should start moving as soon as possible."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Phebe Irpeel
-----------------------------------------------------------
Phebe glances at Redmond reassuringly, sensing his discomfort.

"Not all ways of 'extract'-ing information involve violence."

"May the LORD grant that the gifts I am blessed with be sufficient to learn what we need without having to resort to such means."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Pierce
-----------------------------------------------------------
Perce nodded. He hadn't been particularly happy with the idea of 'extracting' the information, but would do it if necessary. If Phebe was able to get the information they needed without harming the man, so much the better.

"Yes, we better get resupplied and on the way. We can use the horses to get to the woods more quickly. He'll have almost a full day head start."

Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Sarge ()
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sarge said, "Stay here for a minute."

He walked back into the house and came back a minute later holding a map. He pointed with his finger [to the spot marked with the red arrow].  "What you do is ride to this point here, where you'll find that the forest has been kept back pretty well by traffic for a little pathway. It's overgrown, but not heavily thick like most parts in the forest. We send foresters there once a year to cut back some of the trees to keep it clear. You can ride through that path until you get to the Ancient's Way, here." [he points to the bottom end of the orange line on the map near the arrow]

He continued, "You get on that Ancient's Way and it will be clear of forest all the way up to the pass where the Ancient's Way hits the valley wall. It's the only way out of the valley that a man without some kind of spider climbing abilities could get out. Especially a wounded man. And he may not know where it is exactly. You have a good chance of getting there first if you're on horses."

He let that sink in, then he added, "The horses will be useful, at least until you get to the pass leading out of the valley, they might not be able to climb that because it's pretty treacharous. If not, leave them there if you decide to leave the valley, I'll send someone to pick them up tomorrow. If they can manage it, so be it, take them with you. These will be some good, fast, athletic horses that can do stuff some other horses might not can do."

Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Phebe Irpeel
-----------------------------------------------------------
Phebe nods.

"I have been in and out of the valley and beyond many times, so I can help guide us along the journey."

"Remember us in prayer, Sarge.  May the LORD bring us together again soon..."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Pierce
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pierce nodded and shook Sarge's hand. "We'll find this guy, and learn what his intentions are. After that we'll see what's going on out of the valley."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Xavier Ashe
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Sounds good," X says.  "Lead the way.  We'll get him for you, Sarge."

===========================================================
Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Sarge ()
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sarge shooke everyone's hand who offered it. "Cedar Valley could be in for some hard times, but with heroes like you all to defend her, we might yet survive them. Thank you, and be sure and go by the quartermaster's shop for any supplies you need. As for the horses, they'll be at the gate when you are ready."

OOC - if you are taking any additional kit, let me know, otherwise just tell me you're not. My next post will be as you are on your way to the Ancient's Way.

Re: Act 2 - Scene 1 - Cedar Valley Revisited by Redmond Jacoby
-----------------------------------------------------------
Redmond takes Sarge's hand, feeling embarrased, and then rubs the back of his head. "We won't let you down, Sarge. Thanks."

((OOC: To save time, Redmond will grab a few days' extra food, but will otherwise not be picking up extra gear. :) ))
