=========================================================== Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- This is for Team Beta (Group 2). Please decide which way you're going (Way A or Way C) and then choose a marching order. This message was lightly edited by the GM at 20:24, Mon 26 Feb 2007. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- "One way's as good as another," X says. "How about this way?" He points down cave C. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- "Sounds good," Skeeter replies, and then positions himself to follow behind Xavier. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- "Maybe we should check to see which way had the most traffic before deciding?" Pierce held the lantern and turned up the light. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond nods at Pierce's suggestion, and bends over to take a look at the floor as Pierce shines light on it. "Hmmm..." ((OOC: Track check result: 23)) =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by boy ----------------------------------------------------------- boy turns to Skeeter, "gas clouds, how wil we breathe when they squiert that F$#%#^# q^%#^#w& b)&%# gas?" =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond Jacoby typed:Redmond nods at Pierce's suggestion, and bends over to take a look at the floor as Pierce shines light on it. "Hmmm..." ((OOC: Track check result: 23)) You detect more tracks (none of them human/shoes/boots) going down the C way. Strangely, you detect NO tracks whatsoever on the A way. In fact just looking at the ground that direction it has a noticably different texture to it than the rest of the ground near you. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- "Looks like this is the best choice if we want to find the children," X says, pointing down C. "Although this is an interesting texture. Any ideas as to what it suggest?" =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- "Whatever the reason for the varying texture, it's obvious that something is down there. I doubt they would have built a tunnel and not left tracks. My guess is they purposely cleaned the area for some reason," Skeeter finishes as he stares in deep concentration wondering if any behavior of ants might give clue to what might be down there. (OOC: Rolled 12 on a Know: Earth and Life Science to determine what behavior might cause the cleaning of the tunnel. Oh BTW, I'm getting really annoyed with this die roller. I haven't rolled above 6 yet, but I guess I'll have to endure it.) Once Skeeter has thought about the problem, he repsonds to boy's comment, "Boy's right. We'll have to take great care when engaging the creatures as we do not have anyway to protect our faces and breathing." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond frowns, considering. "I'd guess that the way with tracks is another passage out, and this one is something stranger. I say we try it first." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce nodded in agreement with Redmond. "I think we'll want to investigate the stranger parts first." He thought for a moment then made a suggestion, "Maybe if we put a damp cloth over our noses and mouths that will help us with the gas." He tightened his grip on the sword. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - Looks like we have a tie so far on which way to go. Xavier & Skeeter - Way C Redmond & Pierce - Way A Haven't heard from Phebe or Boy on the which way to go question. [Private to Skeeter: You can't be sure what might lie in the direction of the untravelled path or what might have caused it to be that way.] =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- Xavier says, "Okay, let's go down the way you chose. I may be that the children have been stowed back there and the tracks have been suspiciously covered." (OOC: X doesn't have a firm conviction either way, so he will follow down Path A.) =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by boy ----------------------------------------------------------- boy rips off a burlap patch from his elbow and unties a leather strap from his leg. cutting a button hole on either end of the patch with his hack'r, boy then threads the strap and ties it over his nose and mouth. "ani bod'e got hydro?" [Private to GM: If boy feels the urge to go, then #1 on the makeshift mask, if not wait until an opportunity arrives.] This message was last edited by the player at 01:05, Thu 15 July 2004. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce shook his head. "I don't have any handy right now. A couple of us could go back to the farm house and wet down some cloth and fill a canteen or two. We probably want to hurry though. No telling if the alarm has been raised right now." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- "No time for that," X says from the back of the group. "We've got to keep moving and trust ourselves as individuals and a group to be able to handle these buggers--er, buggems." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- "I do have a water skin filled with water. I guess we're not in such dire circumstances that we can't use it for make shift filters." Skeeter then proceeds to rip a pieces of heavy cloth and wet it down for himself and passes the water skin on to the next person who wants to use it. He then wraps the moist cloth over his nose. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce looked at X. "X, you were in the cloud that thing made outside. Did it burn or give you any trouble breathing?" He made ready to go deeper into the hive. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- As the group discusses which tunnel to follow, Phebe quietly walks over to where the path diverges, regarding each tunnel with a gentle yet penetrating gaze. She takes a single step down the "C" tunnel. She then puts a hand upon the tunnel wall, closes her eyes, and bows her head in silent prayer for a time. After this, she walks over to the "A" tunnel, and takes a single step down it. She then puts a hand upon the tunnel wall, closes her eyes, and bows her head in silent prayer for a time. Suddenly, with a muffled cry, she loses her balance. She manages a single disoriented step back toward the group before stumbling and collapsing to the tunnel floor. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond lets the others argue - he's said his piece, and doesn't want to further debate. Because of that, he notices Phebe doing her thing, and watches somewhat curiously. When she cries out, he blinks in surprise and starts moving towards her. He's not quite fast enough to catch her in mid-air, but he manages to get a hand underneath her to break her fall. "Miss Irpeel! Are you arlight?" =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- As the group discussed the logistics of entering the tunnel, Pierce noted that Phebe was poking around the different tunnels. When Phebe collapsed, he moved forward to cover Redmond as he caught her. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- X responds, "I suffered no ill effects from the cloud. It simply blocked my sight. However, I immediately exited the area, so there is no telling what prolonged exposure might do." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by boy ----------------------------------------------------------- boy takes the proffered hydro from Skeeter and tries to conserve the precious resource while wetting down his burlap. handing the hydro to whomever is closest. then sheild to left arm and straight edge hacker in right hand. boy startles at Phebe's collapse and boy immediately stabs the wall where Phebe's hand last touched. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Phebe shakes off her momentary dizziness and disorientation, and looks up at Redmond with a gentle smile. "I'm... fine. Thank you, Redmond." Her eyes twinkle as she gets to her feet. "But I do wish you would call me Phebe -- 'Miss Irpeel' makes me feel so old, after all..." Phebe looks back at the two tunnels, before turning again to regard her companions. "I was considering the passages before us in prayer. As I considered the right passage(OOC: tunnel "A"), and pondered walking in that direction, I had... well, a brief vision would be the best way to describe it, I suppose... Anyway, I had a brief vision of myself, falling." Phebe considers a moment. "I have been blessed with some degree of wisdom and foresight on occasion, and I have learned not to ignore such things." "I would advise that we consider taking the left passage first. Or, if we think the right passage is needful, that we take appropriate precautions, such as sending someone to scout ahead, tied to a rope that the rest of us hold securely..." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond frowns slightly. On the one hand, he's not always sure about the divine. On the other, he's seen too much of Phebe's gifts to pass them off as foolishness. "Don't suppose you know whether that vision was literal or figurative, Miss Irp - um, Phebe? =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC: Darned crash wiped out my post. Pierce opened up his pack and pulled out a fairly good length of rope. "I'd recommend that all of us tie ourselves together. That way if anyone falls in, the others can pull him out." He toyed with the idea of making a face mask like boy and skeeter were doing, but decided against it. X had been exposed to the mysterious fog (albeit briefly) and seemed to be suffering no ill effects. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - still waiting on a consensus of which way you're going. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC: Crash wiped out my post as well. X agrees to go down passage A. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- "Right then, let's look down that way", as Skeeter points towards tunnel A. Skeeter takes a length of rope from Pierce and ties himself off just in case. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond ties himself off reluctantly. He's not that agile, and he doesn't want to get into a fight with this rope holding him back, but he wants to fall down a pit even less. "Alright, if we're prepared...?" ((OOC: Sorry, was waiting to see if Phebe was going to answer him.)) =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond Jacoby typed:Redmond frowns slightly. On the one hand, he's not always sure about the divine. On the other, he's seen too much of Phebe's gifts to pass them off as foolishness. "Don't suppose you know whether that vision was literal or figurative, Miss Irp - um, Phebe? Phebe looks preoccupied for a few moments, before shaking her head slightly and blinking. "An interesting question. Well, once I had a brief vision of my throat being cut... not at all a pleasant experience. This caused me to pause for some time and rest. As I did so, I saw rustling in the bushes some distance down the trail, and decided to change my route from what would undoubtedly have been an ambush." "As to whether the vision figuratively represented an ambush, or literally represented what would have befallen me had I continued along that path, I know not." "But in either event, I would definitely advise caution, should it be necessary to travel that path..." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by boy ----------------------------------------------------------- boy takes the rope and runs it through loops in his waistband, from Redmond to Skeeter. Turning to Skeeter, "this r'eyet?" =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce nodded to boy. "That looks good" He tied himself off with the others. "Are we ready?" and he indicated tunnel a. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond nods, tying himself off with a bit of reluctance. "Let's do this." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- You tie each other off with rope, which gives each of you about 5 feet of slack you can move around without pulling everyone else. As Redmond steps forward leading the way down the "clean" passage, you hear some creaking and cracking noises. Then Redmond breaks through what appears to be about a 6" crust, down into darkness, pulling Boy into the pit with him. Everyone braces and holds tight. Skeeter is slipping precariously near the edge of the hole that Redmond made in the floor. But everyone pulls back as hard as they can, and Boy comes back up out of the hole, grabbing a hold of the edge and pulling himself back out. Then with a bit more effort, everyone pulls Redmond out of the hole and back onto the safety of solid ground. The hole in the floor reveals a very large pit, it appears that for at least the next 15 feet or so, the entire passageway going that direction is a pit that is covered by a relatively thin layer of crust. You can not see the bottom of the pit, and you can't really tell exactly how far down the passage that the pit goes. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Phebe strains with the rest of the group to bring Redmond and boy back to safety. Once they are on solid ground once again, Phebe sighs, with a heartfelt "Thank the Lord!". Moving over to Redmond and boy, she asks "Are you two injured?". =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- X looks to see if there is any way to edge around the pit, any overhangings, or other possible way to get across. Then he asks the others to shine their lights in the pit so they can get a close look down to see how far it goes and if there are any caves or entrances branching off from its side. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- You go near the walls and kick hard and punch through the crust. The pit goes right up to the edge of the wall, or at least it does near the intersection where you are standing. As you bring a flashlight up to the pit and look in, you see down about 20 feet, that the pit floor is covered with sharp looking rocks that have some kind of reflective/shiny goop on them. You do not see from where you are any caves or other passages leading out of the pit area below. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by boy ----------------------------------------------------------- "yep, alsright, that was D%$@ M^%$@ F*&%! trip. They knew. They've done this before, and knew others wood come." boy looks around and keeps a hand on a wall, feeling for tremors. This message was last edited by the player at 00:04, Tue 27 July 2004. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce nodded. "Seems like they've planned for an attack. Now the question is, is this tunnel a dummy or is there something really important at the end of it?" He looked for anything that looked like hand holds/foot holds on the wall. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond spends a few moments catching his breath. "I'm fine, Miss Irpeel, thanks to you. I don't like to think on what might have happened without this rope, though." He looks at the hole, frowning. "Just how smart are these creatures?" =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Phebe's relief over lack of injuries sustained morphs to gentle amusement over Redmond's continued formality of address. Her eyes twinkle as she answers. "The buggems sometimes have a 'leader' breed that is very intelligent that controls the 'worker' buggems. The workers aren't too smart, but the leaders could be..." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce typed:He looked for anything that looked like hand holds/foot holds on the wall. You don't see enough hand/holds/crevices to make a safe climb along the wall. It would be nearly impossible, you think. [Private to Skeeter: Redmond was able to walk on the crust for a ways, but he was too heavy and broke through. A lighter fellow, like you for instance, might not break through the crust and could explore down the hallway. Boy might also not be heavy enough to break through.] =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- boy typed:boy looks around and keeps a hand on a wall, feeling for tremors. You actually do feel a slight tremor. But it passes. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- "I say we try the other passage. At least for the moment. We can come back here if we need to." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce nodded. "I agree." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by boy ----------------------------------------------------------- "Movement. Faint , gone now." boylistens to Peirce and Redmond and vigorisly nods his head in agreeement. boy tucks his hack'rinto it's loop and tries to keep a hand on a wall as he walks. [Private to GM: boy will begin to alter his walking meter, make it so as not to be in rythm, ie arythmic steps.] =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- "I agree as well to head down the other passage for now. If we come back later to check this passage," pointing to trapped passage, "it might be possible for boy or I to get across the crust as we don't weigh as much." Skeeter then unties himself from the group as it probably won't be needed any longer. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond nods as well, untying himself gratefully. "Right. Other way it is." =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- The passage winds around in an S shape and then you come to an intersection. There's a pit in the middle of the intersection, but you can walk around it on its edge. It looks like it's about 15 feet deep, and it has a little water in the bottom. The passage goes off to the left and to the right from the pit area. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Phebe quietly moves to the beginning of the edge leading toward the left passage, puts a hand upon the wall, and bows her head in prayer... [Private to GM: (*) Any precog impressions, or other things of interest? (*) If not, she will then check out the other direction. Any precog impressions toward the right?] This message was last edited by the player at 18:56, Wed 28 July 2004. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- PM [Private to Phebe Irpeel: When you put your hand on the left passage, you get an image of running into a dead end and having to turn around.] =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- After a moment or two, Phebe stirs and looks up. She then moves to the beginning of the edge leading toward the right passage, once again placing her hand upon the wall and praying... [Private to GM: Anything precoged with the right passage?] =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- PM [Private to Phebe Irpeel: You don't get any strong images from that direction.] =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- After a moment or two, Phebe stirs and looks up again. She then moves to the middle of the passageway they came from, and bends down to put her hand upon the edge of the pit... [Private to GM: Any precog impressions as Phebe ponders descending into the pit? :) ] =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- PM [Private to Phebe Irpeel: No impressions from the pit. You figure its some kind of primitive drainage device to prevent the caves from flooding out with water.] =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- After a moment, Phebe stirs and looks up again. She turns back to the group. "I did not get any impression from the pit. I figure that it is probably some type of primitive drainage system to keep the caves from flooding out with water." "I did not get any impression from the right passage, either." "But from the left passage, I did indeed get a strong impression." Phebe paused dramatically, before giving a wry smile. "I saw myself hitting a dead end, and having to turn around." Her eyes twinkled with amusement. "I suggest that we consider the right passage first..." This message had punctuation tweaked by the player at 20:32, Wed 28 July 2004. =========================================================== Re: Team Beta - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- "That works for me," X agrees, ready to go off to the right. =========================================================== Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- You feel a rumble and hear the sound of a cave-in from behind you back in the direction you came from. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- With a worried look on Skeeter's face he intones, "Now that didn't sound good at all." Looking at everyone, "You don't think those things may have double backed on us some how and collapsed the entrance do you? Given the degree of sophistication of the concealed pit, these creatures seem very cunning. We should be careful not to let them control our movement too much as it places us at a severe disadvantage." "Oh, and going right seems to be the only option now," as Skeeter gives a wide faced, worried grin with his tail twitching madly. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond nods slowly. "Could mean we're cut off from the others. Should we go take a look?" He pauses. "Frankly, I'd be just as happy moving ahead, for now..." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Phebe considers. "We don't know what has happened, or where. But we do know of companions nearby, and of missing children who may be nearby. Should we not check to make sure that no one has been buried or injured? If someone has been buried, for example, then our immediate assistance may be required..." Phebe moves toward the passage they just came from, puts her hand upon a wall, and bows her head in prayer once again... [Private to GM: Any precog impressions from pondering a trip back toward the sound of the cave-in?] =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- X shakes his head. "The children would be in front of us, not behind us. I say we push on to the right." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce nodded in agreemment with X. "If we turn around every time something happens, then we won't get anywhere. If anyone has been trapped, we'll have a heck of a time rescuing them if we have to fight off the buggems at the same time. We've got to deal with the buggems first." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - It seems that the majority want to go forward so I'm assuming that's what you guys do. You travel toward the right passage for about 30 yards or so and come to a T intersection, you can again go left or right. Phebe repeats her ritual of touching in each of the directions and prayer. [Private to Phebe Irpeel: You don't get any impressions from touching the way backward at the previous intersection. Anticipating your move, you get an impression from the left passage at the T intersection, you get an image of a buggems attacking you. When you touch the wall for the right hand passage, you get an image of being burned by acid. Neither image is particularly pleasant.] =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce waited to see what Phebe's reaction was on the different paths. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Phebe stands at the entrance to the left passage, hand upon the wall, head bowed in prayer. Suddenly she stiffens, and her arm rises as if to ward off a blow. With a muffled cry, she staggers for a moment, before regaining her awareness of the present moment. She relaxes and opens her eyes, looking a bit pale. "Attack by a buggems..." She shakes her head to clear it, before going to the right passage... Phebe stands at the entrance to the right passage, hand upon the wall, head bowed in prayer. Suddenly she stiffens, and she begins writhing in pain. She doubles over, breathing heavily, before slowly relaxing and opening her eyes, looking even more pale. "Burning by acid..." She mops a fine sheen of perspiration from her brow, takes a deep breath, and regards her companions. "Dangers lurk before us, but we have some warning, thanks be to God. Caution is needful..." This message had punctuation tweaked by the player at 12:44, Fri 30 July 2004. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- "Personally, I'd rather deal with a buggems than deal with acid. . . ." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- "I'm with you there." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond nods. "The children are also more likely to be with the buggems - I vote that way." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond leads the way, sneaking down the passage to the left. It runs for nearly 100 yards, curving a bit. The passage opens up into a small room about 30' by 20' but oval shaped. There are three buggems here. When they see you approach from further in the corridor, two of them rush forward to block the room's entrance. One stands back and is holding a crossbow ready to fire. The must have heard you coming. (ooc - tell me your actions for the first round, keeping in mind that Redmond is pretty much blocked from entering the room, and party marching order.) =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce (being mindful of the when he caught farmer Gooselin in his flame) attacked the buggem with the crossbow with his pyro. "Is there enough room for more two to fight side by side? I'll try to deal with the crossbow." For some reason he lost his concentration on the buggem at the crucial instant and the fire he meant for the buggem slipped from his control. His eyes opened in surprise as he realized that he lost control of the fire. He managed to push most of the flame into the floor and dove aside. After a second, he stood up slightly shaken and put his hand to his singed eyebrows. "This just isn't my day./" This message was last edited by the player at 20:24, Sat 31 July 2004. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond has time for a moment of incredulity. "It has a crossbow!!" Then his fighter's instincts take over, and he spins, ducking low to present a lower target and punching upwards towards the buggem. ((OOC: So much for that. 8 to hit. I get the feeling that my damage reduction is about to come in handy...)) =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by boy ----------------------------------------------------------- boy presents his shield and steps to Redmond. Seeing Redmond burst into flames, Skeeter relizes that Redmond's attempt to stop the buggem with the crossbow failed. Skeeter focuses his thoughts upon the crossbow has he mentally pictures a hand grasping the weapon and tossing it away. (OOC: Skeeter readies his sword for combat, but if no one has taken the crossbow out yet I will use my TK ability to try to grab and throw the crossbow away.) =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Phebe regards the buggems with a gentle yet penetrating gaze... [Private to GM: Telepathy, starting with the one carrying the crossbow...] =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- ((*cough* Skeeter? I believe you mean that Pierce burst into flame?)) =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, what Redmond said. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- (OOC: Oops :) Yeah...Pierce. That's the ticket.) =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - Sorry for the delays, I have been ill and haven't had time to keep up with my games. I may not be able to post until Sunday. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- The much anticipated summary of Round 1 Map: ![]() Init: 18 Boy 17 Buggems3 (on redmond) 14 Redmond 12 Phebe 10 Buggems2 (on boy) (wounded) 9 Pierce 8 Skeeter 7 Xavier 3 Buggems1 (had the xbow) Boy hacks at the buggems in front of him and smashes his machete into one of the buggems' limbs, hurting it. The buggems in front of Redmond attacks with two slashing claws and a bite but Redmond manages to get out of the way of each attack. Redmond tries punching the buggem in front of him but it deftly moves aside. Phebe concentrates on the buggems with the crossbow... The buggems in front of boy slashes with both claws and tries to bite but is unable to make contact with the nimble little boy. Pierce concentrates on the buggems with the crossbow, bringing forth images of fire and heat in his mind. We don't know where they might have put the children, we were taken in small groups and brought here. They haven't fed us much either." The woman that Skeeter gave water and food too thanks him and she passes it around so everyone can have a bit. After the mention of taking them out another man speaks, "Yes, if we can get out so we can find clothing and food that would be best." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce took a piece of jerky from his satchel of food before he passed it around. He knew what it was like to be hungry. "OK, has anyone used a bow before? I won't need this too much, and if we run into something I'd rather have some of you folks armed as well as us." [Private to Gama Master: Figure that he has two days worth of rations here.] =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Phebe Irpeel ----------------------------------------------------------- Phebe surveys the scene for a brief moment, trying to identify the prisoners most in need of immediate medical attention, then rapidly moving to examine the worst afflicted... [Private to GM: What is the condition of these various prisoners/patients? Any interesting thoughts picked up by her telepathy?] =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- Nodding to the woman, "Your very welcome." Looking at boy, Pierce, and X, "boy has a good point. We could scout our way back quietly to make sure the path is clear. I'm game!" as Skeeter grins broadly at his poor attempt at humor. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- None of the men, there are 6 of them, seem to know anything about shooting a bow. One of them says he'll give it a try and takes the weapon. When Pierce hands out the rations he draws a little fan club as the malnourished former prisoners eagerly wait their turn to get something to fill their empty stomachs. Phebe examines the people closely. Many of them have minor scratches and bruises, and they all look dehydraded and malnourished. None have any major wounds to speak of. The people do not seem to be too self-conscious of their nudity. Apparently they have gotten over their prudeness from being forced into this group cell in this condition for so long. Skeeter and Boy head out back the way you came to scout a way out. While you are waiting, the man who took the bow practices drawing the bow back. He attempts to shoot it at a wall to see if he can. He ends up breaking a couple of arrows this way, but he at least gets the feel for it. OOC - is anyone else going to do anything while Skeeter and Boy are gone? [Private to Phebe Irpeel: Are you really going to try telepathy on all of the prisoners? Remember it's a 1 in 20 chance each time you use it to suffer psychic feedback, and they can detect it on a DC20 will roll (not likely, but at least 5% chance).] [Private to boy; Skeeter: Are you just going to retrace your previous steps back to the way out or are you going down any unexplored corridors?] =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce took care to make sure that everyone got something to eat, and that those who appeared to be worse off got a little bit more. Once that was done, he stood watch waiting for Skeeter and Boy. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- Redmond winces slightly, leaning against a wall, and watches the tunnel that boy and Skeeter went down, looking a bit worried. Halfway there... I hope the others are alright. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- X simply waits outside the filth-infested cell for the two scouts to return. He mumbles to himself with his hand over his nose. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- boy and Skeeter move quickly and silently retracing the party's path. (OOC: Skeeter rolled 11 using 1d20+6. Move Silent. PM to boy and GM on plan) =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Skeeter ----------------------------------------------------------- After a number of minutes, boy and Skeeter return to the group. With a worried look on Skeeter's face, he reports his findings to Red and X. "Well, we've got bad news. The cave-in blocked the tunnel that we came in through. We can try to navigate the other passages we haven't explored yet to get out. That means we'll need to protect the others from harm while trying to find a way out." "There were two, possibly three other ways we haven't tried yet. The one Phebe reacted to with a burning liquid sensation and sounded dangerous. The tunnel where we were attacked from and the one creature with the crossbow fled through. The final possible passage is the one with the pit trap, but it may be difficult to traverse with so many in a weakened state." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Xavier Ashe ----------------------------------------------------------- "Any path but the pit path sound good to me," X says. "I guess the one with the burning liquid sounds interesting." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by boy ----------------------------------------------------------- boy looks at Skeeter, whilw Skeeter talks boy nods his head vigorously to confirm everything. "Should take Phebe warning way. No thing flees down tunnel to exit, only safetee." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Redmond Jacoby ----------------------------------------------------------- After a moment, Redmond nods. "I hate to say it, but I agree. At least on that path, we know what the danger is." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pierce ----------------------------------------------------------- Pierce nodded. "It looks like that's probably the best path so far. We'll just need to be careful about the floors and any other buggems we meet." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- As you are heading that way, the party encounters Team Alpha, coming from that direction. (See new thread) =========================================================== |
