=========================================================== Team Alpha - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- The team is heading down Way B from the map (posted in the last thread). Give me a marching order. This message had punctuation tweaked by the GM at 20:24, Mon 26 Feb 2007. =========================================================== Re: Team Alpha - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- (OOC:) Solomon would be kind of near the rear. He's already injured (down 8 points) and he's the healer. I figure the healer shouldn't go down too quickly if the group wants to be healed. Just keep in mind that healing is much more difficult in Gamma World than D&D. It takes a lot out of the healer to help others and Solomon's already been busy today. =========================================================== Re: Team Alpha - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari stays at the back of the group, holding a lantern and a fluid-filled egg shard. He's learned a valuable lesson that it's best to let things get sorted out first, before jumping in to investigate new and interesting discoveries. =========================================================== Re: Team Alpha - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Gama Master typed:Group 1 Solomon - healer/social, has ties with Pepsi Khari - tinker Apollo - bruiser Pepsi - ranger, ties with Solomon, (doesn't get along well with Xavier) Jiro - martial artist I guess that I am here, up front will be fine prodding the way with the staff, (OCC) I will not be making any major decisions at this time, I will go with majority decisions as I have an inkling of whats happening at this time. [Private to Gama Master: If you wish to be a pain there is a way of blocking us from seeing the other groups post, I am playing a T2K game and both groups could hear gunfire from the other group after splitting for a hunting and camp party, just post noises from the other group now and then. Keeps them thinking and if they encounter each other there could be a world of hurt before they know what is happenig ;P If you are not sure how to do it I can contact the referee of the the other game.] =========================================================== Re: Team Alpha - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- As Jiro began to head down their selected cavern, Pepsi slung his bow and drew his sword again. He then gave a quick glance to Solomon. With an almost imperceptible shake of his head, he turned and followed. =========================================================== Re: Team Alpha - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- As Jiro began to head down their selected cavern, Pepsi slung his bow and drew his sword again. He then gave a quick glance to Solomon. With an almost imperceptible shake of his head, he turned and followed. =========================================================== Re: Team Alpha - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo cracks his knuckles and proceeds down the tunnel, "C'mon, we've got work to do. I'll take point." =========================================================== Re: Team Alpha - Act 1 Scene 5 - Lair Continued by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon smiled slightly at Pepsi with an almost imperceptible shrug. Speaking quietly but loud enough for the group to hear, he said, "Perhaps Pepsi should take point. He's a tracker and hunter after all. That way, we won't disturb any tracks before he has a chance to look at them. He can also scout for us. After him Jiro and Apollo in case there's trouble. Khari and I can bring up the rear." There was no telling what they'd find down those tunnels, but if the tunnels intersected here and there, it would be good to have Pepsi leading the way. If they ended up in a position where there could be trouble ahead and trouble behind, Apollo and Jiro could easily move to the front and rear to add their martial prowess as it was small group. (OOC: edited to match GM ruling.) Keeps them thinking and if they encounter each other there could be a world of hurt before they know what is happenig ;P If you are not sure how to do it I can contact the referee of the the other game. I thought about doing that but I kind of like the idea that the game is available for anyone to read. I've actually had a few comments from people not in the game who read the threads. I think we can trust people to keep character knowledge separate from player knowledge. ] =========================================================== Take point by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Looking at Apollo in the dim light, as long as we are doing something it doesn't matter where I am. "Be my guest" short bow an steps aside for Apollo to "take point". OCC: sorry for any confusion with the subject. This message was last edited by the player at 14:39, Tue 13 July 2004. =========================================================== Re: Tracking? by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- PM[Private to Jiro: (OOC: Hey Jiro, did you mean to direct your reply to Pepsi? I thought you had just missed my post, but I see that you changed the message title to reflect it. So, I thought you may have just typed the wrong name.)] =========================================================== Re: Tracking? by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari carefully cradles the fluid-filled egg he is carrying while holding up the lantern to give Pepsi the best light for tracking ahead. He is excited about what they might discover in these dark tunnels. =========================================================== Point Man by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - Since Apollo actually wrote that he was walking forward I'm ruling that he's leading the way at the moment. Followed by Pepsi, then Jiro, then Khari, then Solomon. The tunnel goes for about 30 feet and Apollo suddenly stops. There is a pit in the middle of the tunnel. When light is brought up to the pit, you can tell it is about 15 feet deep. It is possible to walk around the pit if you walk carefully and slowly. The pit seems to have a little water in it. The cavern continues on, making a few turns, for another 60 feet, and then it opens into a small, irregular chamber about 20 feet square. The passage continues on the other side of the chamber. On one wall of the chamber are two small lumpy shapes that you can't really recognize from the room entrance. They might be bodies? =========================================================== Re: Point Man by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari does not enter the chamber immediately, being more cautious this time. But he does try to shine the light from his lantern more fully on the interesting objects on the wall. =========================================================== "Honey, were home!!" by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Jiro quickly steps into the beam of light, knowing that it was too late, looking at Khari whispers harshly, "Why don't you just ring the dinner bell for the cockroaches, its light we need not a beacon." =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- (OOC: Questions: How wide is the pit? How wide are the walls of the tunnel? I've been assuming the tunnel to be round, is this accurate?) =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- The tunnels are roughly 10' wide. Sometimes they collapse down to 5' wide. The pit is about 5' wide, in the middle, leaving about 2' on either side of it. The tunnel is not exactly round but it's rounded somewhat. =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- As the party goes on, Apollo decides to keep things from getting to heavy by talking to his comrades a bit. Albeit at a low tone of voice, "Since nobody's seen these things before they must've came here from somewhere else. What could've caused them to migrate here?" =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "Probably the same thing that we are doing now. So it would be in our best interest to get a peace treaty started or remove the problem." Jiro waits in line to carefully move across the ledge, offering one end of his staff to assist with balance for the person in front. =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon waited his turn to edge his way around the hole, using any proffered hands to aid his balance (though if offered, he seemed uncomfortable with taking hold of the staff, prefferring to use his own abilities.) =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- (OOC: Er, I guess I thought we were already past the hole, and at the room with the strange objects...oh well) Khari moves slowly around the edge of the hole, being careful not to lose hold of lantern or egg. Once past the hole, he uses the lantern to shine a light down to try and see the bottom. =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- (yeah, you were past the hole...) From previous post - The cavern continues on, making a few turns, for another 60 feet, and then it opens into a small, irregular chamber about 20 feet square. The passage continues on the other side of the chamber. On one wall of the chamber are two small lumpy shapes that you can't really recognize from the room entrance. They might be bodies? As Khari shines light on the shapes it appears they ARE bodies of some sort. Small bodies. Possibly children. They are curled up in a fetal position. There is some kind of slimey substance all over them. =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- Pepsi looks around quickly then makes his way to the children. "Solomon! Get up here. Quickly!" he hissed as he assumed a guardian position to provide defense against any attacks they might suffer. =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Jiro expecting retaliation from interfering with the cockroach's dinner looks at the layout of the room and prepares a defensive point, allowing the others to ensure the children's well being safely. [Private to Gama Master: I know they are mutant termites but it should throw the rest off the trail, we hope.] =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- "Good lord!" It looks like they've finally found a few of the children to Apollo's horror. He rushes up to the sacs but refrains from touching them out of fear of worsening things. He tries to determine if there is anything alive inside. =========================================================== Re: "Honey, were home!!" by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari follows Apollo with the lantern. He too, is cautious, not touching anything until he has a chance to examine the situation. He wonders if the fluid from the eggs might have some type of revification effect. (OOC: Rolled 1d20+4 = 15 for a Knowledge (Nature) check) This message was last edited by the player at 13:34, Sat 17 July 2004. =========================================================== Slimey Kids by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- The two children are covered in some kind of sticky slime. As you touch their necks to feel for a pulse you do detect a feint pulse, but your fingers get numb from touching them. Suddenly you hear a spitting noise from off to the right side of the room. From one of the little holes you see the glint of four eyes. Some type of goop splatters on the wall behind you all as it flies by just missing you. [Private to Khari Saldeen: You don't think the egg stuff will help with this sticky goop on the kids. You think the goop might be causing them to be paralyzed.] =========================================================== Re: Slimey Kids by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- As the expectoration flies by, Khari stands quickly, wiping slime off his fingers. He sets the lantern down on the cave floor, and unholsters his ax. "What ou' fer that stuff-ff. It 'ight drop ya!" he shouts to the others. =========================================================== Re: Slimey Kids by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- Pepsi shifted his stance to position himself between the children and the attacker. He raised his sword before him with both hands when the meger light they had dimmed even more. He quickly jerked his head around and discovered that the lantern had been set down. He returned his attention to the direction of the unknown attacker just as quickly and said "Someone Get that light up high so we can see!" =========================================================== Re: Slimey Kids by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Jiro quickly looks around for something to plug the hole getting out of the line of fire, if they can't see they'll have to come out or run, if no immediate action can be taken Jiro will swing at the wall to see how solid it is, its dirt right? =========================================================== Re: Slimey Kids by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari awkwardly picks up the lantern in the same hand that holds his ax. He lifts the lantern high to provide the best light for the rest of the group. =========================================================== Re: Slimey Kids by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon had moved forward to examine the kids. He hadn't expected to find them so quickly. As the liquid mass splattered against the wall, he crouched somewhat. As the others prepared for battle, Solomon rubbed his numbed fingers together in thoguht before pulling out his hunting knife to begin trying to cut and pry the children from the wall. (OOC: If necessary, Solomon will use his sheathed sword to try to separate the children from the wall.) =========================================================== Re: Slimey Kids by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Jiro looks around for something to plug the holes that the spitter-things are in, but finding nothing, he smashes the wall over the holes and causes a small cave-in that blocks the holes where the spitters are. The children are not attached to a wall, they are just lying on the floor, covered in sticky goop. =========================================================== Re: Slimey Kids by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon pulled out his waterskin and a spare shirt and began trying to clean away the slime from the kids. (OOC: Does the slime look like the slime from the spitters? Why am I getting an visual image of Lance Armstrong?) =========================================================== Re: Slimey Kids by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - yes, the slime on the wall from the spitters looks exactly like the stuff covering the kids. =========================================================== Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- You feel a rumble and hear the sound of a cave-in coming from behind you, back the way you came from. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari steps quickly between Solomon and the children and the apparent direction of the noise. He starts to think he might have to set the egg down so he can help defend the young victims. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- "Oh crap!" Pepsi explains as the rumble sounds behind them. He quickly looked around to ensure everyone was ok. He made eye contact with Solomon for just a moment, shaking his head twice as he did so. "We have to move fast. See if you can figure out some way to get them out of here." He then looked to Khari and asked "Can you bring that light over here? We need to get these kids on the move and out of this place before we become permanent residents." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari moves to where Pepsi has indicated. While looking back toward where the crashing noise originated, he asks Solomon nervously, "A'thing I c'n do t' he'p?" =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon nodded to Pepsi and unstrung his bedroll. He began to use the bedroll to protect his skin and wrap the children up in it together. "Apollo, can you carry these children along that ledge to the other side of the pit?" =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo nodded, "I can if the chemicals are no longer potent. But only one way to find out." And with that Apollo grasps the children and lifts them up. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo seems to have no ill effect from carrying the children wrapped in the bedroll. It is not clear to the GM if your party is now heading forward through this room to beyond or back the way you came. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "If we are retreating I'll take rear guard or assist with the advance up front." =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon looked at the others as he followed Apollo, "Let's go with Apollo and get the children to safety. After all, that's what we came for. We can let the other team know and then return to finsh the job." (OOC: I figure the children are what we came for. It is the completion of the assigned objective if we get them out safely. Though Pierce suggested that we go ahead and send Dylan back with the horses and Solomon unload his, I don't think Dylan has actually left because we didn't tell him to. Let's get the kids out, maybe wash as much of this goo off with water as we can, treat them as necessary and then send them off with Dylan back to the town. We were also going to have Dylan warn the town, but I think we went into the tunnels before we did. Once that is taken care of, we can come back into the tunnels. What do you guys think?) =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "Sounds like a plan, its half of our mission and wouldn't be look too good if we get them killed after just finding them." Though the mission didn't state that they had to be breathing. Gama Master typed:Sarge coughs, and continues, "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to locate the missing children and the group of adults that went after them." "As for the ride home for them we could rely on Red Gamble and Pete Chase." OCC: From PM to Jiro and Khari Saldeen Gama Master typed:You are accompanied by two of the town's guards, both stock human warrior types, one named Red Gamble and the other named Pete Chase. This message was last edited by the player at 18:03, Sat 31 July 2004. =========================================================== Re: Rumble in the Tunnels by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Team Alpha went back the way they came and carefully skirted the edge of the pit again. However, back at the intersection where the larger team split into two parties, the intersection had been completely caved in and there was now no way to go back in that direction, it was a dead end. Not having any alternative, Team Alpha turned around again and went back to the room where they found the children. The passage continued on through that room and beyond. The team kept going and the cave winded around for a while on an upward slope. Eventually they came out in a wooded area behind the farm some ways. The Team went to where Red, Pete, and Dylan were waiting with the horses. They took the children inside and cleaned off all of the sticky green goop that was covering them. But though there was a pulse, the children were still not moving even after the paralytic substance was removed from their bodies. They were put on the horses being carried with each of the men riding. Then the riders left, except for Dylan who stayed with five of the horses (the others took the remaining horses and the bodies and the kids back to town). =========================================================== Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- [Private to Gama Master: Evil Grin ]"Which entrance?" looking around "we could go back into the woods where we exited or try the mound, however as far as I can tell the mound is our only option as there were no side tunnels where we found the children, unless the cockroaches in the wall have one, secondly the other team will have to find another way out." So much for the string so as not to get lost OCC: correct me if I am wrong. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- "I think we should go back to where we entered the cave originally and the track the second group. We didn't meet up with much opposition, but that could also mean that they're all at the second team's location." Apollo cracked his knuckles, "If these creatures are like any other insects then I don't like our fist to buggem ratio." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon listened and nodded. "Either way. The mound or the basement. Though I suspect that the mound is the 'front door' and if given a choice, I'd rather try the back door first." (OOC: Solomon would have saved as much string as he could by cutting it by the cave in. When he gets a chance, he can retrieve the rest from the other side. String has lots of uses. <S>) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- After Team Alpha investigated the basement tunnel again, they discovered that the cave-in has completely blocked off any way of getting to where Team Beta is from that direction. Here's a map: ![]() =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari kicks a loose dirt clod in frustration. " 'ooks 'ike it's t' front door then. Anythin' we c'n do to prepare for losta fightin'?" =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "Dumb plan but anything is better than milling about out here." preparing for a grissly approach, If they are anything like ants they will go berzerk if we disturb the mound. "We get ready with missile weapons with melee weapons upright in the dirt, one "If they make it to the line up, the weapons are ready to be lifted whilst we drop our missile weapons." looking around "Surely we can come up with something better as we are not to sure how fast these cockroached move." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari makes up his mind, "'Spose I be t' bait then..." He retrieves and loads his crossbow to make ready for entering the main mound. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- Pepsi stood there for a moment looking at those making the plans. He did not like what he was hearing and that was clear upon his face. Without speaking, he pulled a few arrows from his quiver and stuck them into the ground deep enough to just hold them upright. He then moved so that he was between the opening and those arrows. By extending his arm, he could easily grab an arrow and snap it into place. He pulled another arrow from his quiver and laid it across his bow. I gave a single nod to his companions and said "I am ready. Let's do this crazy thing." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon took a deep breath. It was clear that he didn't like the "plan" either. But he knew that the other team was down there and if they did nothing, the other team would be trapped and likely outnumbered. Of course, with this idea, there was no guarantee of helping them anyhow. They'd likely all be outnumbered. But there weren't many options available to help his companions, so took up a position near Pepsi and followed his example, readying his bow. Once he was in position and prepared, he nodded to Khari. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo moves forward one step from the group fists clenched and ready for battle. "I'll try to keep the buggems at bay. Don't let up with your arrows." He nods to Khari, "As soon as things start up, get here behind me." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari nods to Solomon and Apollo in affirmation. He picks up a lantern in one hand, holds his loaded crossbow in the other. Taking a deep breath, he heads toward the main mound. Hopefully his luck would not run out today. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - sorry for the delays, I've been ill and unable to post. Is the plan that you are all going to wait at the base of the "ant hill" while Khari goes up to the top to take a look? =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - I believe the others will wait at a short range away, within arrowshot, while Khari enters the hill to draw the critters out. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC- Yep. We need to check the mound out. Incidentally, if the drop is far, there is a coil of rope tied to Solomon's saddlebags. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- [Private to Gama Master: They're going to do it??] "I thought this would have be discussed and a better plan made", Turning to Khari "it has been nice knowing you...just in case." Jiro sticks his three piece rod in the ground for easy access and ensures his quiver is easily accessable, knocks an arrow in his bow putting his full attention into the mound and what may come bubbling up. [Private to Gama Master: they will probably come from behind] =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- As he walks toward the mound, Khari turns back to Jiro. "We nee' to provi'e so'e kinda d-d-istractio' fo' t' others. 'they 'ay be gettin' ganged up on in ther'." He forces an awkward, crooked smile, "An' don' worry, 'y luck hasn' failed 'e yet!" He turns back and trots off toward the mound, keeping in mind Solomon's suggestion of a rope, if needed. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Addressing Khari "Just have your weapon ready at any case, when you pull back line up with Apollo and if all goes well this will be over before any harm comes to any of us." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - I thought I had already posted this but looks like my post got deleted somehow? Khari carefully walked up the steep incline of the "ant hill". As he approached the mouth at the top of the hill, a giant, purple beetle with sword-like antenae rushed out and attacked Khari. ![]() Roll init... and tell me your first round actions. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari drops his lantern and fires his crossbow at the nasty-looking giant bug. He then turns and runs back to where the others are waiting in ambush shouting "' 'ere it comes!" (OOC: 16:17, Today: Khari Saldeen rolled 2 using 1d8. damage. 16:17, Today: Khari Saldeen rolled 17 using 1d20+3. Critical confirm. 16:16, Today: Khari Saldeen rolled 23 using 1d20+3. OOC: Apollo rolled 11 using 1d20+2. Initiative Ready action to attack the thing when it gets within range. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon gasped slightly as the large creature climbed out of the mound and let fly with the arrow that he had readied. 12:24, Today: Solomon Sheperd rolled 4 using 1d20+3. Attack with Bow. 12:24, Today: Solomon Sheperd rolled 4 using 1d20+1. Initiative. (OOC: Apparently, the dice don't like me today. But as an aside, some of us had stated that our characters readied our bows and such. Specifically, Pepsi, Solomon, and Khari, but maybe others as well. Is it possible that those that had readied their weapons would have held actions and get a chance to fire before Init?) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC - I am not sure about Gamma World D20 (basically D20 Modern) because I'm not overly familiar with the rules for that but in D&D you can not "hold" an action out of combat. The Initiative is the start of combat. However, I will consider giving those who had their weapons ready a substantial bonus to their init rolls. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Releasing an arrow at the monstrosity raising from the hole and knocking his next arrow to carry on the volley. 16:46, Today: Jiro rolled 12 using 1d20+4. Attack with Bow. 16:40, Today: Jiro rolled 9 using 1d20+2. Initiative. In first ed ADnD the bow got two attacks, does that still run? [Private to GM: Feel free to edit post, I will be on tomorrow night and I am going on holidays, I am unlikely to have access to the internet until Tuesday week (24th), carry on the volley unless Khari drops then jiro will drop the bow and grab his three peice rod and run up to distract the creature way form him. Any further questions, I will be on for another 10 hours tonight and will be on tomorrow night, altenatively I will have MSM running for this time, ] =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- (OOC: I don't know either. But your call sounds good. I'm easy like that. <S>) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Round 1 Summary Init 26 Khari 21 Apollo (start) 20 Pepsi 19 Jiro 14 Solomon 5 Apollo (end) 4 Sword-beatle Khari lets loose a bolt from his crossbow and hits the creature square in its mouth, dealing a nasty wound. (HP 10.) He then rushes back down the ant hill to the base where the others are standing. Apollo readies an attack in case the creature moves into melee. Solomon shoots his nocked arrow but it flies wide, missing the sword-beatle. Jiro fires an arrow but it just bounces off the sword-beatle's tough exoskelleton without doing any real damage. Pepsi lets loose his readied arrow and hits the creature in a soft spot, the arrow sticks out from the wound as black goop seeps out of the sword-beatle. (HP 7). The sword-beatle lifts an arm and lets loose a volley of 2 barbs from it's arm, the barbs fly toward Pepsi but hit the ground near him instead. It then rushes forward and meets Apollo, who swings at the creature and smacks him good in the head. (HP 6) The sword-beatle slashes at Apollo with both sword-like antennae, but Apollo deftly moves out of the way of each attack. (Apollo's init is now 5) Here is a map of the scene at the end of Round 1. Big Purle dot - sword-beatle Red dot - Apollo Green dot - Jiro Pink dot - Khari Blue dot - Pepsi Black dot - Solomon ![]() =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari reloads his crossbow, and tries to get a clear shot at the monstrous bug. The shot is difficult since he tries to avoid hitting Apollo. (OOC: Attack = 12, Dmg = 6) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- Pepsi watched the barbs fly toward him as if he were disconnected from the situation. He calmly reached behind himself and pulled an arrow from the ground as the bards struck just short of his feet. Without acknowleding how close he had come to what could have been a serious injury, he drew the arrow across his bow and took aim. He pointed the business end of the arrow at the glassy black eye upon his side of the creatures head and let fly. The arrow streaked through the air with a violent hiss as is sped toward the sword-beatle. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Another go, if this fails its up close and personal. Init 19 05:07, Today: Jiro rolled 21 using 1d20+4. Attack with Bow. 05:09, Today: Jiro rolled 2 using 1d8. Damage. If I hit. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo interlocks his fingers together and smashes his fists like a sledge into the bug. Pepsi fires another arrow at the giant beatle and tags it in another soft spot, doing a decent amount of damage but not really slowing it down at all. Apparently this thing can take lots of abuse. (HP 7). Solomon fires another shot and also manages to sink an arrow in the creature's flesh. (HP 7). Jiro also hit the creature with an arrow but it almost didn't stick. (HP 2). Apollo smashed the bug again, black ooze getting on his fist as he punched a soft spot. (HP 7). The creature wasn't slowing down. It moved 5' to the right, putting it in threat range with Solomon, Pepsi, and Khari (it has 10' reach with its antenae). OOC - all this really means is that each of you must take a 5' step away from the creature before you fire a missle weapon to avoid provoking an attack of opportunity from it. Then the creature fired 2 barbs at Solomon, and one glanced off Solomon's armor while the other just flew past. Apollo took an opportunity to attack the creature again while it was firing the barbs, but the creature moves away before he can land the blow. The sword beatle swung it's large sword-like antennae at Apollo, missing both times. Map is the same except for the creature is 5' to the right. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari steps back a few feet to avoid the reach of those vicious-looking antennae, reloads his home-made crossbow and fires again. (OOC: Attack=14, Dmg = 3) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Seeing the battle not going to plan drops his bow and grabbs his three peice rod sticking from the ground and closes for some personal contact. OCC: Changing weapon, I will assume it is counted as an action. [Private to Gama Master: I remember these have some weakness in the antennae, up to you if I can call it.] =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- Pepsi growls lowly as he snatches the remaining arrows and stepped away from the giant bug, increasing the distance between himself and the monster by several feet. He dropped one of the arrows and quickly loaded the other across his bow and snapped it into place upon the string. He pulled the arrow back and sighted down the projectiles shaft, aiming it at the monster. ”Let’s see how you take another one, big boy!” Pepsi whispered as he released the string. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon preferred to keep his distance when he could. After all, he wasn't much of a healer if he was out of commission. But the fight was rapidly closing to melee distance, making getting a clean shot with the bow more difficult. In response to these new conditions, he dropped his bow and drew his rapier as he advanced on the creature. (OOC: If he get's a chance to attack, he will. If not, it can wait until the next turn. I'll roll now just in case. 15:06, Today: Solomon Sheperd rolled 5 using 1d20+4. Attack Roll. Well, I must have the worst luck with dice in this game.) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo swung again. (HP 3). Pepsi growled lowly as he snatched the remaining arrows and stepped away from the giant bug, increasing the distance between himself and the monster by several feet. The arrow sailed past the large creature. Seeing the battle not going to plan, Jiro dropped his bow and grabbed his three peice rod sticking from the ground, then closed for some personal contact. The sword-beatle slashed at Jiro as he moved through the creature's reach, but it missed. Solomon preferred to keep his distance when he could. After all, he wasn't much of a healer if he was out of commission. But the fight was rapidly closing to melee distance, making getting a clean shot with the bow more difficult. In response to these new conditions, he dropped his bow and drew his rapier as he advanced on the creature. Solomon only needed to make a minor move to engage and so he thrust at the creature with the drawn weapon, but his steel met only hard chiton. Apollo swung again. He was sure he could take down the bug, he was sure of it. He hit the sword beatle hard, right in one of it's eyes, and the creature squeeked in pain. (HP 12). The wound was too grievous, the sword-beatle could not go on, and it slumped to the earth, a black ooze dripping for it's many wounds. ![]() (OOC - damn you guys took that thing down easier than I thought you would! 60-something hp of damage to it in 3 rounds!) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Jiro not wanting to miss an oportunity appraises the use of the carcase, whiles ensuring he keeps some of his attention on the hole above. Can we make use of anything on this bug, [Private to Gama Master: Knowing the answer is no]such as the antena as weapons or poles, or the shell as armour, even scrape it out as a wagon or boat. not now maybe a later task. "Craft (Mechanical) +6" OCC: its worth a shot it was done in First ed Gamma World and ADnD. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- You're not sure exactly how you could use it but the chiton on this sword beatle is pretty hard, but probably not really any harder than steel although it would be a bit lighter. As to the antenae (see the picture above) they do have sharp sword-like appendages but probably would not work any better than actual steel swords would, although again, they would probably be lighter. Steel is actually pretty hard to come by so the community might could make use of these weapons in a pinch. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari takes note of Jiro's appraisal, and thinks Maybe he's on to somethin' there. Khari trots over to analyze the bug's parts as well. (OOC: Knowledge (Tech:Archaic) Check = 18) After making some mental notes, he turns to the rest and poses a question, " 'ell? Ready t' t-try agin?" =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo cracks his knuckles, proud at having felled the beast and protected the rest of the party. "Let's get going then. We still have to find team beta." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Keeping his guard up turns towards the mound "Too true Apollo, the carcase is big enough to be here when we return." "It's not like any of us would like to sample the meat." with a look of distaste "is there?." It is a strange world we live in. [Private to Gama Master: I will follow Pepsi lead in the following post and recover my one arrow] This message was last edited by the player at 08:44, Fri 27 Aug 2004. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- Pepsi ignored the others as they contemplated scavaging the carcass. He retrieved what arrows he could and made ready for the next stage of thier crazy adventure. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon shrugged. "A man that is hungry will eat some strange things. I know that insects were sometimes eaten as a delicacy before the cataclysm. Good thing I brought some jerky," he said with humor as he followed the examples of the others in preparation for another attempt to enter the mound. "Hopefully, he was only the guard and not just the doorman." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "OK that last idea didn't go to plan". Jiro admits his plan flopped and everyone only got through without injury due to good luck alone. "since I nearly killed us who wants to put forth the next hairbained scheme". [Private to Gama Master: I thought someone would have hit the dust] =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari smiles his awkward smile, " I' guessin' we should try t' sa'e hair-b-b-rained sch-sch---plan, afore they git a new guard." He picks up his crossbow, reloads it, and once more heads off toward the mound. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari made it to the top of the mound this time without being attacked by strange giant insects. He noted that the "ant hill" was about 30 feet in diameter and about 15 feet high. At the top of the hill was a 8 foot diameter hole, that was at least 30 feet deep, but Khari could not see the bottom from where he stood. About 25 feet down there was an opening in one of the pit walls that led off into a side tunnel. He couldn't hear anything down there, and there was an eerie silence that permeated the still summer air around the farm. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari comes back down the hill, not wanting to use a loud voice to explain to the others. "We nee' 'bout 50 foot o' rope..itsa 30 foot drop. Also, I' thinkin we should all go in t'gether, an' we best go fas', afore 'ore bugs git here." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon nodded and unslung the coil of rope that hung from his left shoulder to his right hip. "Here's a hundred feet. Now if we can just find something to tie it off to," he said looking around. (OOC: If there is much extra, Solomon may consider cutting the rope in case there is another drop somewhere inside.) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "The bug should be big enough to tie off on, I knew if we thought about it that dam thing would have a use." "No need to cut it as I have some as well". rummaging around in the backpack for rope. This message was last edited by the player at 12:18, Tue 31 Aug 2004. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon tied off the rope to the sword beatle's carcass. Then he tested the weight. He couldn't drag the carcass by himself. It seemed sturdy enough. Khari then went into the tunnel and rappelled down the side into the darkness below. After getting some light near the bottom, Khari could see that there were basically two ways to go. Passage A seemed to head back sort of toward the west, while passage B, which was lower than Passage A, went off toward the easternly direction. ![]() =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo peered down the hole. He whispered, though his voice echoed down the tunnel, "Khari! Are you okay?" =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari tries to direct his reply up and out, by cupping his hand around his mouth. "I' O.K...." he calls back. He continues, ""There's a' Eas' tunn'l, an' a Wes' tunn'l....I think you all bes' co'e down!" =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Everyone comes down the rope one at a time. You're all standing on the ledge of passage A, it is a quick drop (jumpable, about 15 feet down) to passage B if you decide to go that way. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "It may be best to attempt to intercept Beta group so that they know which way to get out if they need to." "As an idea thought can anyone climb?" just incase the rope is not here when we return. This message was last edited by the player at 12:37, Wed 08 Sept 2004. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari nods in agreement, " 'Aybe we could pu' stakes o' so'e kind up t' walls...an' I agree, we should go t' way to t' other group.." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "Good plan, I'll check the barn for something" even keep an eye out for digging tools, could dig out some climbing holes. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Pepsi ----------------------------------------------------------- Pepsi said "Good idea. I'll help you look." and joined Jiro in the search for anything they could drive into the walls to use for hand holds. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- The two of you find about 30 metal stakes of some sort. heavy. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- Sounds too easy, inspecting the stakes Pepsi found in a box under the work bench, though not much else appeared to be of much use at the time, Jiro will attempt to locate a block hammer or something to the effect to drive the stakes into the wall of the. "The scary part is that these misfits may be sensitive to vibration or sound." "We could also peg the end of the rope as well incase the carcase slips." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Yah, there is a hammer along with the stakes that could be used. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- (OOC: Sorry guys. Had a death in the family and had to go out of town suddenly. I didn't have time to let everyone know. But I'm back now.) Solomon climbed carefully down the rope. (Taking 10.) He nodded to Jiro and whispered, "I agree. We should check with the other group first in case they need help or need a way out. If we can find them. He moved to the side out of the way of the others climbing down and took a moment to secure his equipment and prepare his bow, keeping an eye on the passageways as he did so. This message was last edited by the player at 09:22, Sat 11 Sept 2004. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari thinks hard about what he remembers the tunnels doing while you were under the house. He factors in the distance and direction of the house, and then he decides that it's about a 75% chance that passage A is the way that will take you toward the direction the other party went. OOC - assuming the same marching order you used before, Apollo, Pepsi, Jiro, Khari, and Solomon bringing up the rear. You travel along a westernly corridor for 30 feet and come to an intersection. After a bit of exploring you determine that the one way ends up as a dead end so there is really no choice. You continue on in a westernly direction, then the passage curves south a bit, and then it curves back to the west. After about 100 feet, You end up in a roughly oval shaped room about 25 feet wide east to west and 35 feet long north to south. There are passages leading out of the room at each of the cardinal directions (N,S,W, and back East). There is a creature in the room, that looks like a miniature version of the sword beatle you fought on the ant hill. It is over in one corner toward the northern end of the chamber. It isn't moving. Its sword-like antenae are nowhere near as large as the adult version of it, and it has smaller barbs on its legs. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "Awww, isn't it cute" as Jiro knocks an arrow and takes aim, awaiting approval from the group to release it. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon drew his bow and held it following Jiro's example. He called over to the insectoid, "If you can communicate with us, now would be a good time to demonstrate that ability." =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Khari is concerned... "So'ethin' ain't righ'....there shud be 'ore bugs inna hole this big..." But he, too, readies his hatchet, and at the same time holds the lantern up to get a better look at the little bug. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- The creature moves a little bit but it doesn't seem to really notice you. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Apollo ----------------------------------------------------------- Apollo tenses up and readies for a fight, "If the other group cleared out this part of the tunnel there'd be more bug corpses right? You think they're okay?" =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Jiro ----------------------------------------------------------- "It may be wise to clear our exit in case we have to retreat, just say the word and I am sure we could turn this from a pest to pin cushion in no time" =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Khari Saldeen ----------------------------------------------------------- Much as he would like to capture this bug for study, Khari realizes the practicality of the situation. "Cain't show 'ercy wit these things...they don' give us none...its us er t' bugs, so we shud jus' do what we gotta do..." He motions with a nod toward the little bug, indicating to Jiro to give it a quick death. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Solomon let fly an arrow. 16:25, Today: Solomon Sheperd rolled 12 using 1d20+04. (OOC: Wow my luck sucks when rolling die here.) =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- The party lets loose a barage of arrows that impale the creature. It makes a half-hearted attempt to move up and reciprocate, but then Apollo smashes his fist into the thing's eyes and kills it. Now you are faced with the decision of which direction to head, north, south, west, or back east the way you came. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Solomon Sheperd ----------------------------------------------------------- Taking a moment to note the way they had come so they could find their way when they came back, Solomon gestured in the direction of the passage towards where they had been heading, towards the direction of the other team. =========================================================== Re: Back into the darkness by Gama Master (GM) ----------------------------------------------------------- As the party heads toward the west, they encounter Team Beta along the way.
